What Is BPC-157? A Research Overview

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic peptide made up of 15 amino acids. Its sequence is derived from a larger protective protein found naturally in gastric juice, and it has become one of the most widely studied peptides in preclinical research.

Structure and properties

BPC-157 is a pentadecapeptide with a molecular weight of roughly 1,419 g/mol. Unlike many peptides, it is noted in the literature for being relatively stable, which is one reason it appears in so many laboratory studies. Research-grade BPC-157 is supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder to keep it stable during storage and transport.

What has it been studied for?

Most published work on BPC-157 comes from cell culture and animal models. Researchers have looked at its relationship with tissue repair pathways, blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), and its interaction with growth factor signalling. It is important to note that human clinical evidence remains very limited, and BPC-157 is not an approved medicine in the UK or elsewhere.

What makes a quality research sample?

For reliable results, a research sample should come with:

  • a purity figure from HPLC testing (ideally 99% or higher);
  • identity confirmation by mass spectrometry;
  • a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA); and
  • clear storage guidance.

At Ligaya Labs every batch is tested by HPLC and mass spectrometry, and the COA for each lot is available on our Testing & COA page.

Storage

Lyophilised BPC-157 is best kept sealed at -20°C for long-term storage, or 2-8°C for short periods, away from light and moisture. Once reconstituted for laboratory use, solutions are typically kept refrigerated and used promptly.

Summary

BPC-157 is a well-studied synthetic peptide in preclinical research. If you are sourcing it for laboratory work, always check for a current COA or batch-specific HPLC and mass-spec data.
